This video would have been projected onto a wall in a black out room. The projection would have filled the entire wall. The audio would have been through headphones so that the piece can be watched with and without sound. It would be played on a continuous loop.

“The Passions” – series by Bill Viola
Bill Viola’s interview on the making of ”The Passions”” “surging wave that comes through people and out into the world” – Passion “you get taken over” “connection to people” – looking at old masters “moment with another person from another time” “representing…loosing control…loosing sense of self” “Silent Mountain” – a video piece, silence, slow motionContinue reading ““The Passions” – series by Bill Viola”
Viva Presentation
Bill Viola
I found Bill Viola’s work through the Tate website. I was instantly struck by ‘Four Hands’. I found the presentation of these hands reflective of the frames in my own videos. Also i was intrigued by this minimalistic display. Due to size of the screens the hands are practically life-sized, and their small size createsContinue reading “Bill Viola”
Week 10
Linked below are my first edited videos, one in colour and the other in black and white. I wanted to see what difference this would make. I like the way the audio shows the nervous laughs and reflects the nervous behaviour. I feel that the black and white version enhances this anxiety. This is myContinue reading “Week 10”
WEEK 9
This week I participated in another group crit. My feedback reflected my feeling that painting may be limiting my engagement with my focus. I am inspired by body language and this is what i am looking into through my art, therefore it was suggested that i experiment with film, exploring people body language and howContinue reading “WEEK 9”
Lisa Brice 1968-
I am drawn to the singular colours, and the rich blues that Brice uses in her paintings. Again large scale. This use of a singular tone rally emphasises the aspects of form, which I feel I am losing in my paintings. Similar to Joffe, Brice picks up upon lighting, and limits the amount of realismContinue reading “Lisa Brice 1968-“
WEEK 8
When painting these I am using ‘Grasshopper’ by Joffe, and one of my photos for reference. I am focussing on Joffe’s colour palette and the loose style of painting. I have payed attention to the thin paint, thick flat brush strokes and washes on white. I will continue with this piece until I am happyContinue reading “WEEK 8”
WEEK 7
Following my trip to the Tate Modern and and looking into new artists. I have began painting in reaction to a piece by Chantal Joffe, who I have researched over week 6. Link to the research write up below. https://idavies3art.wordpress.com/2019/11/11/chantal-joffe-1969/ In the above link I explain why I am interested in Joffe’s style of workContinue reading “WEEK 7”
Chantal Joffe 1969-
Similarly to Maria Lassnig, Chantal Joffe creates large scale pieces, which have an element of the disproportionate, slightly abstracted figure. Their pallets are similar and I find that these pale cooler tones are one I would like to replicate in my own art. I took this screenshot from this video, because I felt it wasContinue reading “Chantal Joffe 1969-“
